The Alamo Lake Wildlife Area is managed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department and includes within it's boundaries the Alamo Lake State Park, Alamo Lake, and Alamo Dam. The Alamo Dam was built in 1968 as a flood control method but has turned the resulting lake into a fisherman's haven. Located just north of Wenden, AZ. at the edge of the Rawhide and Buckskin Mtns in the Bill Williams River Valley - were the Big Sandy & the Santa Maria Rivers come together.
FISHING: Alamo Lake is noted as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the western US and is stocked with large-mouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, and black crappie. Lots of fishing tournaments and derbys at the lake.
DIRECTIONS: Alamo Lake is located approx. 38 miles north of Wenden off Hwy 60; Follow road signs from Wenden on US Hwy 60 approximately 50 miles west of Wickenburg. Turn north, the well paved road wanders out through the desert and ends at Alamo Lake (approx. 38 miles north of Wenden). Remember that this is a remote area, hot and dry in the summer - and there is very little besides desert creatures between Wenden and Alamo Lake.

Wayside Inn & RV, LLC Wayside Inn & RV Park is located east of Alamo Lake State Park. Watch for signs shortly before coming into the park area. (928) 925-1600 Propane & some supplies available. Wayside Inn has the Best Green-Chili Cheeseburgers in the West! The cafe walls are covered with pictures of the "Best Catch" from Alamo Lake. The Cafe is closed on Wednesday. |

Other species found in the lake are redear and green sunfish, bluegill, channel and flathead catfish, bullhead, and carp. Posted 6/09/2010 The lake is very healthy with bait and I wouldn't hesitate to say Alamo is fishing at about a 7 out of 10 right now. |
