The northwest portion of La Paz County is mostly reservation land. Parker is located on and surrounded by The Colorado River Indian Tribe's Reservation. A second community, Poston, is located on the Reservation 20 miles south of Parker. The reservation spans the Colorado River and has land in two California counties as well as in La Paz County.

There used to be a town called La Paz, Arizona. It was an early gold mining town along the Colorado River. - founded in 1862, they opened a post office in 1865 but the town was abandoned in 1875. The gold supply was pretty much exhausted by 1864 but the town was also a stage stop and a shipping port along the Colorado River - until the river changed it's course and left the town of La Paz high and dry. The settlement was originally known as Pot Holes, but as La Paz, it was the county seat of Yuma County from 1862 to 1870.
