ODE TO THE OUTBACK

Find the adventures of old mines,

hidden caves, ghost towns, canyons with walls that speak of the past,

and underground streams that come up to greet you.

Experience moon shadows, stormlight,

and evening stars reflecting on an old pond.

Smell the sweetness of wet sage after a summer storm,

the essence of Pinon, Greasewood, and Mesquite warming in the sun.

Listen to the wind whispering through a giant Ocotillo,

coyotes talking to the moon, and Quail coaching their young.

Watch as the mountains turn purple with the evening sun,

the splendor of the desert as it blooms ~

but most of all ~ hear the silence.

Hear the Silence

"One's soul is in the wide spaces,

the long vistas, the desert flowers,

the soaring buzzards and blue sky,

the hum of bees among golden palo verde blooms,

the fragrance of wind after rain."
